Who are you and what do you create?

What materials and techniques do you use? What kind of inspirations go into your work? Lately I’ve been painting a lot of still life assemblages, and I spend time cataloging imagery of living spaces and interesting light environments.

In what space do you like to create most? What has been your favourite or most important work to date?

I’m an artist living on the Sunshine Coast and I paint figurative and still life oil paintings.

I predominately paint with oils on either canvas or wood. I use a direct approach of painting called ‘Alla Prima’ and enjoy the freedom in movement and expression the technique favours.

I’m inspired by many things — my natural surrounds, light, literature and people. I suppose my practice revolves a lot around searching for light. For me, light, like paint, sculpts objects. I’m drawn to any imagery where light is transforming/illuminating the space, whether it be dramatic or subtle.

I work from my home studio in the Noosa Hinterland and I’ve been lucky that wherever we’ve lived, my husband makes sure there’s a studio space. He built the home studio that I work in, and it has lots of natural light, which is perfect for me to create in.

My favourite work that I’ve painted recently is ‘Amber Vase in the Morning Room’.
