But Horizon Festival returns this August bigger, brighter, and more importantly: in person. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the journey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You might have noticed that things look a little different this year \u2014 they certainly do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You see, after two strange years of no Horizon Festival,<\/em> we figured it was time to brighten things up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, we engaged Coolum based artist Jack MaCrae to help us return bigger and brighter than ever before.

Jack\u2019s bold, yet minimal, collage art, of our stunning Sunshine Coast landscapes, forms the base of this year\u2019s festival look.

We started with a theme: the horizon line<\/strong>. We looked at the colours you see, at the rising and setting of the sun, and all the shapes you may find. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there, a range of Sunshine Coast locations were chosen, where the horizon looks just that little bit extra \u2014 the Glasshouse Mountains, Maroochydore River, Mount Coolum and Old Woman Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then worked with Jack, the team at We Are VA, and Tim Birch to translate Jack\u2019s artwork, and the elements within, across the festival campaign. This included a photoshoot \u2014 with Courtney Scheu \u2014 displaying Jack\u2019s artwork using greenscreen technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where we landed, is what you see now: a new horizon.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

artworks that form this year’s branding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jack Macrae<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jack MacRae is an emerging painter + collage artist primarily focused on abstraction. His work reveals a clear focus on investigating colour, form, technique and materials. He deftly creates hand-cut collages using coloured paper as well as abstract colour field landscape paintings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forms and shapes intersect with bold planes of colour in his large landscape paintings that offer a flattened perspective of the world. Jack distils the colours, sensations and moods from his expeditions to produce dream like works that beckon with their hard lines and soft curves. An exploration of materiality, scale and space is key to Jack\u2019s practice and his hand-cut collages are skilful examples of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jack brings his studies in architecture to his art making and, although he has only recently commenced regularly exhibiting his paintings, they are quickly receiving acclaim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His work is held in private and public collections throughout Australia. Jack has undertaken artist residencies in Murwillumbah, Iceland and Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
