Kyle Dobie runs Your Local Film Lab — now based in Brisbane. Kyle’s a genuine film enthusiast and he’s crazy-good at taking photos. He’s also one of the loveliest chaps to have a chat to — curious, kind with his time, and always in the know.
We were excited to see what he would come back with for his guide. Take notes, it’s a good’n.

It’s always a treat to see Jack MacRae’s work out in the wild. This is one of the exhibitions I’m most anticipating. Keen to catch the opening night and hear Jack chat about his work.
homegrown: where to from here
I had a chance to meet Nicole and Teddy when I took their portraits for Horizon Festival’s Homegrown project. I’m looking forward to seeing their multi-arts install vision come to life.
Dawn Awakening
This is one of those events that is super different to anything else going on in the arts world. We’re lucky to have it on the Sunshine Coast. It will mark the end of another year of Horizon Festival and I can’t wait to see it unfold at dawn.
Concrete Collage
One exhibition I’m intrigued to check out is Concrete Collage by Jack MacRae and Helena Papageorgiou. It combines Jack’s work with Helena’s animations on a free and interactive art trail. Two great artists working together.

Horizon Festival — the Sunshine Coast’s premier multi-arts festival — returns 25 August to 3 September 2023.
The 10-day offering takes place all over the Sunshine Coast — beaches, the hinterland, warehouses. The lot.
At our core: we celebrate place — it’s the heartbeat of the festival — and our programming reflects this. But, more importantly, we honour the Traditional Custodians of the Country on which we stand — the Kabi Kabi Peoples and Jinibara Peoples.
Our events vary. And they’re (almost) always in spectacular locations. There’s music, art, theatre, dance, workshops, ceremony, and plenty for the family.
So, pop the kettle on, put your feet up, and enjoy flicking through this year’s program — we’d love to see you at an event.
