Local Artist Series // Nicole Voevodin-Cash

Who are you and what do you create?
I am a visual artists who creates interventions that subtly disrupt the boundaries of our physical and social spaces. By creating interactive, tactile, and biomorphic works to occupy you!  I want you to be able to touch, see, feel and move in and through my works as a truly sensory experience. I am passionate about transforming places to engage the senses that are shaped by your behaviour. I make these works to push the boundaries between the artwork and viewer.

What materials and techniques do you use?
My creative strategy is to encourage YOU to interact and establish a connection with place.

I am site responsive to environment, landscape and where I find myself making if for example on an undertaking an artist residency, I will look at my surrounding and produce work as a personal response to what I see, feel, hear and touch. So I create spaces to slow us down, linger longer and embed the experience in our memories as remarkable places. The materials I use are ‘living’ and artificial to achieve the experiences necessary for that place.

What kind of inspirations go into your work?
Creating works that become ‘legacy’s’ of place that are deeply moving for the individual and are timeless. To be present by putting one foot infant of the other such as walking calms the mind but I add elements like walking with a Billycan so everyday, every moment I am creating and drawing.

In what space do you like to create most?
Once it was my studio when I had one now I make work about being in the world, from walking, moving generative art created through being! Site responsive to where I find myself and how I engage with that place, space and community. In creating for them places to:

Play
Roll
Jump
Sit
Eat
Work
Contemplate
and
Immerse
in and on

What has been your favourite or most important work to date?
My large LAND art works such as ‘The Green Room’ a Landart work as theatre and ‘Afforest’ a forest of trees for the park including 22 shaped and espalier tree at Kangaroo Pt Park, Brisbane these are my most important works that have become my legacy as an artist. However the work I am currently undertaking in adapting ‘interaction’ as a sculptural strategy whereby being in the 3D works is captured and funnelled into a 2D output via Landscanning (Digital Frottage) and M.A.D.E Walking Billycan Drawings.
