Homegrown: the forgotten coast
introducing our 2023 homegrown artists.

This year’s Homegrown theme was the Forgotten Coast. We were after projects that re-imagined, or re-activated, spaces forgotten. So, we travelled deep within the coast’s nooks and crannies — we poked around abandoned buildings, dilapidated shop fronts, and overgrown train tunnels, until we landed on these three projects.
— The Blak Laundry by Dominique Chen & Libby Harward
— Labyrinth by Chloe Keating & Melissa Lanham
— Where to From Here by Nicole Voevodin-Cash & Teddy Horton
We would like to thank all the artists who applied this year — it was a very long shortlist.
The Blak Laundry by Dominique Chen & Libby Harward
The Blak Laundry is a functional coin operated laundromat — and exhibition space — for conversation, collaboration and celebration of all things blak.
Activated by Libby Harward and Dominique Chen, the concept is simple: bring your dirty linen, pop it on a warm wash, and engage in critical conversation whilst it cleans.
In The Blak Laundry, everything comes out in the wash.

Labyrinth by LJ projects
Labyrinth is a dance theatre work choreographed by Chloe Keating and performed in three bookshops on the Sunshine Coast. The story unfolds within three chapters taking you on a journey of the region.

Where to From Here by Nicole Voevodin-Cash & Teddy Horton
Where To From Here is a photographic survey of the artisans that make up the industrial estate of Kunda Park. Shining a light on the unseen and unknown artworks created by these manufacturers.

Horizon Festival will return from 25 August – 3 September 2023.
Our full program is dropping next month.
All aboard. Buckle up.
We’re heading for the horizon, soon
